The low points in my opinion were that there can be a lot of 'mood whiplash', a very serious and sad scene will be followed up almost immediately with breaking the 4th wall comedy or cheesecake shots you could make a drinking game out of the number of panty shots there are , this brings me onto the fanservice.
If you don't mind or enjoy fanservice then you'll probably be fine with this comic, if it's the sort of thing that bothers you then you'll probably find this to be an awkward read since they layer it on pretty damn thick it seemed a bit weird to me that no-one in our main cast has a bra size under DD, remember that these are also meant to be High School students , it's taken to ridiculous extremes with the Nurse who's titanic breasts are the source of several jokes and not one of them about back pain.
Most bothersome of the fanservice is a group bathing scene which comes completely the fuck out of nowhere, we go from the survivors showing relief and happiness at the end of one issue and go right onto all the girls together, naked in a steamy bathroom at the beginning of the next with no real explanation or introduction as to why other than to get naked chicks soaping up each other's breasts into the comic of course.
The story also has a habit of getting somewhat melodramatic with a lot of lamenting about how 'the world will never be the same again' and other such things and it just began to drone on after a while I also have to mention that the previous mood whiplash even applied to characters who frequently go from being moody and miserable to being happy and bubbley again in the space of a single panel.
Overall, this isn't a bad series by any extent but by the same token I wouldn't say it overly wonderful or brilliant.
It's enjoyable but otherwise not remarkable. He manages to protect Rei from the initial onslaught, but how long can Takashi and the other students hope to survive wh Synopsis: The world has gone to hell in a handbasket.
Zombies are all over the place and students find themselves having to bash in the heads of friends and teachers.
One bite and it's all over for you! A group of survivors in Fujimi Highschool manage to band together to get out by bus, but can they get out of this alive?
Where can they go, anyway? The entire world is fucked up over this outbreak. Can they all even put up with each other long enough to not be eaten?
So far, the initial group is working together quite well, but they've got some new additions along, one of which seems like a real asshole. Now, Takashi and Rei are on their own trying to make their way to the precinct where her father works.
The ones on the bus are attempting to meet them their as well. Can the two of them get there in time?
Aug 06, Holly Letson rated it did not like it Shelves: I checked out the 1st 4 volumes of this from the SPL. I wanted to get into it, since I had heard that the anime was really good.
The anime version has been recommended to me several times. So, I gave the manga a chance. But, honestly, I could not get into this at all, and dropped it almost immediately.
I didn't even finish the first chapter. The art is decent at best, and the storyline is stupid and unbelievable. Jun 14, Mehsi rated it really liked it Shelves: I didn't particularly like the anime too much gravity-defying boobs and asses.
This one also has quite a few fanservice moments, but I felt it was slightly less. Sep 01, Kristian Dobson rated it did not like it. Generic plot about zombies told in a cluster-fuck of random scenes of violence.
I guess it was supposed to be cool, but after seeing six billion mediocre pictures of zombies being bludgeon, I'd had enough. I'm all for zombies and violence, but this was boring.
It shouldn't be boring. No characters, no progression, just zombies getting whacked on the head. If you're into that I'm sure this is cool. If you want something that isn't the same story that's been done a million times, then Zzz.
If you want something that isn't the same story that's been done a million times, then avoid. Jan 02, A.
I hated this and loved this at the same time. And Highschool of the Dead did just this. It has the right amount of action, character development although a bit slow , and realistic psychological reactions to certain situations to get you hooked.
But this is obviously for the male audience because there is WAY too many ecchi in it. Oh yeah I hated this and loved this at the same time.
Oh yeah, I expected sex to crop up sometime because hey, they're healthy young people and they might as well do it before they die.
It's just that, has it ever occurred to them that they might get one of them pregnant? What will happen then?
The pregnant girl will get in the way. And I sincerely doubt our male lead would be the type to abandon her even if it's for the sake of the rest of the team.
They could at least use contraceptives but I have seen nothing to imply that. So, too much ecchi. Otherwise, a really good addition to zombie literature.
Wait, I almost forgot to add I first was introduced to this manga by watching the first season of the anime and i was hooked. I'm still waiting for season 2 anime wise T-T.
The manga is okay Much like with Trigun, I'm having a hard time deciphering who is talking sometimes, which makes it slightly hard to follow.
And because of the confusion I had through most of the volume, that is why I'm giving it a lower star rating.
Well, that and the obnoxious panty shots and all girls having giant boobs We'll see how it goes for volume 2. I've read the entire H.
D series and watched and re watched the anime series and found it to be a fantastic manga! I've been trying to find out when the next installment will be seeing as act 30 was released on April 10th As for the "up tbe skirt" statement, the reason for it is the artist shoji sato the authors brother is also a hentai artist for a company called digital accel works.
I've been meaning to read this for the longest time. I first saw the anime and thought 'I just have to read the manga for this'. After doing so I bookmarked it as to read then forgot about it.
I recently found it free to read and delved in today. The artwork is quite nicely drawn and the characters are actually somewhat realistic.
This volume just had me on my toes from how great it was. I don't like Takashi This manga was ok Jun 21, SherwoodDemon rated it liked it Shelves: I watched the anime adaptation of this with my sister because I saw it featured on a "top ten best horror anime" list on YouTube.
I adored the show. So, obviously, I had to pick up the books. But I still loved reading it. The story follows a group of high school kids as they struggle to get out of their school which has been overrun with zombies.
It's gore-filled, creepy, and badass as fuck. The art is good, the story is thrilling, and I really like our group of heroes. So why only 3 stars?
I found the shots of underwear and flopping boobs rather unnecessary. It's a zombie story. It should be focused on survival, not wasting art space to let us look up some girl's skirt!
Which leads me to my other complaint. While I loved the art itself, I found the page layout kinda cluttered. You know what i mean? The pictures were just really kinda small and crammed together so it was really hard to see everything.
Other than those two things, it was a very fun read. Barns and nobles is having a yen press manga sale right now, so I'm probably going to buy the rest of the series.
I already have book 2, so I'll be reviewing that here soon. I highly recommend this series to fans of the anime, zombie stories, and horror fans.
Apr 06, Heather Hughes rated it really liked it. This was kind of an impulse buy and I was definitely curious about how this would play out. Obviously, it was a fast read.
I really enjoyed the art, though. Very detailed and accurate. May 20, Michael Kikle rated it really liked it. Even though there's next-to-no character development whatsoever, this is still a pretty solid, fun read.
It's not slow, and it's certainly a little gory, every once in a while. One person found this helpful. This came to me like new in fact the pages did not even look like they had been open!
In horror stories in general, and the zombie genre specifically, we see a great deal of "contagious stupidity," where supposedly intelligent people do really stupid things just to keep the plot moving forward.
IMO this is a lot of lazy writing. High School of the Dead is the notable exception. Our heroes take reasonable and prudent precautions, they perform experiments on the walking dead to see how they behave, and then take ruthless advantage of the knowledge.
And yet, it also takes the time to let the characters react to the horror around them, to have their breakdowns and draw strength anew. Yes there is humor, and plenty of gratuitous panty flashing and jiggling boobs to keep any otaku around for more.
HOTD is the best zombie genre piece I have encountered and strongly recommend it to fans of zombies, horror, manga, and the anime adaptation is incredibly faithful.
Buy it, read it, watch it. I had to immediately tape up some pages upon arrival, but none were missing or had stains on them it was just a heavily used copy.
There were some stickers on the cover but they all peeled off without tearing or marring or marring the cover.
I've seen the first season of this series in anime form, and I think it's just as good as a manga. So far it doesn't seem to be anything different from your normal zombie-fare, but I don't think that's necessarily bad.
I'm a zombie fan and I really enjoyed it. It doesn't seem to be be quite as risque as the anime and does seem a little toned down in the sexual department.
Still, great story about a zombie outbreak at a high school, and something I would definitely recommend! I really, really enjoy this series.
It does not deal with anything you have not already seen, or read in any other zombie related works, it just contains more panty shots, which is fine.
This first book is difficult to read, there is alot of action, and detaield art work, things I generally love, however with the ammount of reading that needs to be done in this manga it makes it difficult to follow and I found myself struggling to read it at certain points.
That said the next books are great, and purchasing the series is well worth it. The voice acting is good, and it's very fun to watch.
